In 1931, there was a competition open to all art students in Edinburgh and Glasgow to design a memorial window to Earl Haig for the War Memorial Church at Aldershot. The competition was won by John Docherty, with Cook coming second; both were students at Edinburgh College of Art. However, Cook ended up making the window and others for the church.
