Susan Bradbury, Sherbrooke Mosspark Church, Glasgow

Susan Bradbury (1997)

Sherbrooke Mosspark Church, Glasgow (formerly Sherbrooke St Gilbert’s Church)

Unusually, this Phoenix window is seen illuminated from both sides for Remembrance Day.

After the earlier windows from this church had been destroyed in a disastrous fire, it was natural to choose the Phoenix as a theme; it has long been a symbol of the Resurrection as well as a signifier of survival after a fire. Here it is conflated with the Burning Bush, seen in the lower area of the window.
