Sherbrooke Mosspark Church (June 2024, Glasgow)

We heard about the collection of stained glass that was lost in a disastrous fire thirty years ago. Lots of photographs were on display along with two unusual items. Firstly, a vidimus, a scale model made of glass by stained glass artist Oscar Patterson in 1912 as part of his design proposal for the original east window depicting the Crucifixion. Also, the sad remains of a tall window reduced to a few centimetres of smashed glass held in a matrix of lead that had melted and resolidified in a convoluted mass.

The modern windows installed during the rebuilding of the gutted church were designed and made by husband and wife team Paul Lucky and Susan Bradbury. Susan was present and she gave a description of the themes, the techniques and the materials that were used, and an insight into the relationship between the old and the new windows.

Below is the Phoenix window, shown when it was lit from both sides for Remembrance Day in November 2023.
