Although Paterson made many church windows (St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall alone has over 70), he is perhaps most noted for his domestic windows. While he generally opted for a very subdued palette, consisting of lemon, white, grey and black, he used other colours too as well as a large range of glasses to great effect in his domestic windows. This staircase window is one of a number he made for the Paton family.
