We Need Your Skills

Over the years, the SSGT has attracted some very dedicated interns and volunteers who have made invaluable contributions to this organisation. To continue our good work we need your help. If you are able to support us on a voluntary basis to:

  • Record or photograph stained glass in buildings
  • Contribute information from publications and archives
  • Help with archiving
  • Give talks about stained glass in your area
  • Join our board or advisory group

Voluntary Opportunities

Due to the retirement of Alison Robertson, long term Honorary Secretary and founding member of The Scottish Stained Glass Symposium, a new management system has been created. The organisation has been running for 12 years and has been steadily picking up steam so that now we need to enlarge the team. The successful applicant would be asked to work from home, with agreed expenses covered. The work is interesting and rewarding, affording opportunities to interact with knowledgable and intellectually curious people. A background in art history, stained glass, libraries, archives or museums would be helpful.

The Scottish Stained Glass Symposium (SSGS) invites applications for the following two part-time positions. For both positions, typing, along with basic computer skills and people skills, are required. Guidance and support would be given at the outset.

Honorary Secretary

This person would function as a ‘hub’ to receive, exchange, and manage computer information about Scotland’s stained glass from more than 240 people and organisations and from the general public. Cooperation with other likeminded organisations helps both. Tasks would include:

  • Correspondence, e-mail correspondence and follow up
  • Organising and filing incoming information (digital and hard-copy)
  • Compiling Agendas (with the Meetings Organiser) for three daytime meetings per year (usually a Friday morning in mid-March, June and October)
  • Liaising with the Membership Secretary/Treasurer
  • Liaising with the Facebook and Website manager
  • Developing links with other like-minded organisations

Honorary Meetings Organiser

This person would be responsible for planning and managing three SSGS meetings a year. This would include working with the Secretary and corresponding with Event Managers at a variety of different venues mostly in the Central belt of Scotland. Tasks would include:

  • Finding and booking the venue, caterers, lunch etc, and collecting lunch money
  • Issuing letters for each meeting to those on the mailing list
  • Recording attendees and apologies
  • Issuing the agenda (supplied by the Secretary) with any supporting papers

We would love to hear from you so please consider joining us.
