Stained glass had an intense flowering in the late nineteenth century when Scotland had many imaginative artists working in the medium, and thriving Scottish studios were bustling with skilled craftsmen. Council chambers, company offices, family homes and of course churches were lit by glorious windows, and the artform continued to flourish throughout the twentieth century. Both Glasgow School of Art and Edinburgh College of Art were centres of excellence for the teaching of stained glass.
This small selection of photographs is the beginning of our gallery, which will expand over time and will progress from early examples of Scottish stained glass to works by living artists.
